How to create my MetaMask Wallet
Step 1: Download MetaMask Wallet to your smartphone
Download the MetaMask app to your smartphone from the app store or from www.metamask.io. The download is short and simple.
Step 2: Set up MetaMask Wallet
- Once the download is complete, open the MetaMask add-on.
- Accept the privacy policy
- Select ‘Create a Wallet’
- Now you need to create a password, i.e. the seed phrase* or master seed. So think of a secure password - and select ‘Create’.
*) In this case, the master seed consists of twelve phrases. You need these to always be able to restore your own cryptocurrencies if the MetaMask file gets lost. It is best to write down the words on a piece of paper and put it in a safe place.
Note: Cold wallets such as the hardware wallets Trezor and Ledger cannot do without this so-called paper wallet. Keep the Seedprhase safe at all times and don't lose the list. It's the only way to access your crypto coins.
Step 3: The security measures
Now you have to confirm the phrases and enter them in numerical order.
Step 4: The right blockchain (network)
Your MetaMask Wallet must now be connected to the correct blockchain (network). In the current original mode, it is still set to Ethereum Main Network. This setting will be replaced by the particularly resource-saving Polygon Mainnet (Why Polygon Mainnet? Please read our blog entitled Polygon).
The following instructions will guide you safely through this adjustment:
- Select Wallet at the very top of your smartphone screen. A pop-up menu will open with the title Networks.
- Select Add a network.
- Select the Polygon Mainnet network further down. Add the network and confirm all requests. Now your wallet should change and show the new network: Polygon Mainnet
After the setup, the MetaMask wallet is available for claiming and importing NFTs. Both are explained in detail in the following parts 2 'How to claim my NFT' and 3 'How to import my NFT into my MetaMask Wallet'.
You can then start buying coins directly with the MetaMask Wallet, for example you can buy Ethereum on exchanges or add ERC20 tokens. However, you need to take some time - especially at the beginning. Try out the Ether wallet and see what the add-on can do.
